Eager to find out more about groove-defying DJ, @itsgazbee ?
Contrary to her ever-changing genre blends, her groove is forever consistent.
She is a storyteller, delivering spellbinding narratives, as she directs musical waves, keeping her audience connected to the dance floor.
Read on to unveil some of the coolest fun facts & tips by the beloved Gazbee.
You aspire to connect with your audience.
On the other hand, partying is often associated with zoning out, and oftentimes resorted to as an escape.
How do you manage to establish a visceral connection with your audience?
Do you know that one charismatic friend that is a really good storyteller?
Whenever they speak, you just can’t stop listening. In fact, you kind of want them to continue forever?
DJing is the same way, it’s all about telling good stories.
What makes a good story? Surprising moments, twists and turns and triggering emotions.
That’s how you get the listener's attention. Music is just as powerful as words.

What is an interesting fact people should know about sound waves?
There is a strong connection between sound waves and our emotional responses.
That’s why we can be impacted in different ways and I guess that’s why every DJ is different.
I’ll always play what makes me feel good on the inside.

If you are to sit down and reflect, what are the gains of the highest significance that you have acquired through your career in music?
Building my self-confidence. Not only as a performer, but learning how to connect to people in a deep and meaningful way and also being able to ask for what I want.

What is it that you have learnt about human-beings as you watch them while you play?
Those that don’t take themselves too seriously are always the ones with the best dance moves.
I wish I could be more like that!

How do you stay grounded, while you manage your energy levels, as your career demands exposure, novelty and flexibility?
I think it’s just figuring out what you want to get out of it and what serves you (or doesn’t).
For example, I really can’t deal with social media and the pressure that comes with it. I hate that there is this expectation that you have to be a certain way, you have to expose your whole life and the more followers you have, the more chances you’ll succeed. It took me a long time to realize that I can push against those boundaries, set my own expectations and make it just about the music. That is truly what makes me the happiest and that is really all that matters.

If you could send the world a message, what would it be?
Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Stand for what you believe in.
Set your own boundaries and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.
Especially if you’re a woman.

What did your career in music make you realize about yourself?
I can be really hard on myself. If the sequence of songs isn’t perfect, if I make a mistake or if a gig isn't great - I will ruminate over it for days on end.
What I’ve also realized is that a lot of women in the industry feel the same way and it’s just absolute nonsense!
Over time, I’ve learnt to let go and just have fun with it. No one cares what button you push, people only remember how you make them feel.

Where do you usually find inspiration?
Everywhere. My ears are always open.

If you could curate a festival line-up, who would make your top 3 picks?
Cami Layé Okún, Gina Sabatini, Luca Musto
